This painting is about the connection I have with Frida Kahlo, and how much she has influenced me, not only as an artist, but also as a person.

When I was a child, I spent a lot of time researching Frida, learning about her techniques, and practicing by painting her artworks. Through her, I discovered so much about art history, and my skills began to grow. Looking back, I realize that she was one of the people who helped shape the artist I am today.

For some reason, Frida has always made me feel connected to a part of myself that I never want to lose: my inner child. She reminds me of the little girl I used to be, who wanted nothing more than to try new things, learn, experiment, and paint all day long without thinking too much about anything else.

“Frida makes me feel like I’m seven years old again, with nothing but a huge desire to try, learn, and paint. All day long.”

This is what inspired me to create Frida a sister. I wanted to create someone who could exist alongside her, someone who shares something with her but is still unique in her own way. A figure that represents my own relationship with Frida and the feeling of having her beside me as I continue to grow as an artist.

To me, this painting is more than a portrait inspired by someone I admire. It is a way of giving a part of my childhood a place in my present. Frida has been with me since the very beginning of my artistic journey, and creating this painting felt like giving that connection a life of its own.

I see her as a companion who reminds me where my passion began and why I fell in love with painting in the first place. As I continue to grow and discover myself through art, I hope to always keep that seven year old girl alive in me.
